its all about lovely cato brownie and her cute kitten

Cat behavior during pregnancy and after birth

on July 15, 2012

A mother cat is as much loving as a human mother the new born kitten is born blind. Its eyes normally opened at the age of 10 to 12 days. The mother cat attends her kitten’s toiletries by licking their back to stimulate the release of urine and feces and cleaning up after them. Changing the placement of new born are the normal behaviors in cats, many times in their early age due to the fear of danger. As far as my experience is concern it’s not about the fear of danger it’s in built in the nature of cats.

I have a cat from last three year named brownie .when she was about one month old I adopt it from my street. She is very friendly in nature. She conceives three times. I learnt about the cat’s behavior differences at the time of her first and later pregnancies.

First time brownie gives birth to four kitten. First experience was very difficult for her. She felt much weakness, don’t want to eat anything and slept for whole day after delivered the kittens. See the brownie with her kittens when they were one day old.

She never mind when I touch her kittens. One kitten was born died and the two of them died in 2 days she just sniff the body of kittens and then leave their bodies. Only one of them stay alive his name is goldy. See the picture of goldy when he was about 20 days old.

Brownie was very caring towards goldy. She licks his body to show love and affection. Look in the picture below goldy take feed and her mother love him.Brownie never mind when I take the goldy in my hands and helped him to find the nipple in early days for feeding as he was not able to open eyes at that time. She changes his placement so many times till goldy is not able to walk properly.

Later than few months brownie conceive again. But at this time pregnancy was not normal she faces several difficulties, when she was about 40 days pregnant a street male cats sexually harass her when she was playing in the lawn of the house. He wants sex with her but it’s a usual behavior in cats that they can’t meet with th

e male cats during her pregnancy. Due to this harassment brownie faces miscarriage. All the kittens died inside the womb and she suffers in labor pain due to that she cried a lot. She tries to go outside and delivers them behind the vase in the lawn. It was a very bad experience for her. She was very aggressive and scared after all those happenings.

Three months later of miscarriage she conceives again. Now this time she takes sleep for whole day, just wake up take her meal and sleep again. The whole period of two months she takes complete rest. Feel fear to go outside and very conscious about her. This time she gives the birth more easily and starts to drink the milk after about one hour to deliver the kittens. Now she behaves more maturely. She born three beautiful kittens named, Momi, Aashi and Smokey.See the picture from right to left Aashi, Momi and Smokey.

They are 24 days old now. Now they start to walk on their feet’s slowly. She changes about three or four places for placing them now a day there are so hot so that she select bathroom for keeping them.If I compare her behavior during pregnancy periods at first time brownie is an inexperienced mom at that time she may not know to how to treat her kittens. But now she is a behaving like a mature mom.

Brownie is a very loving mother, I do think it’s best if she gets neutered because it will keep her more healthy and keep male cats away. 🙂

thanks for your concern Renate—–i also feel very sad for homeless poor cats….I Adopt brownie from my street in a rainy night at that time she is a few months old kitten…..now on this 13 September she completed fours years as to be the part of our family withe her cute kittens……if people like you and me make a collective effort by sharing our views and experiences with people i m sure it must play a very positive role to change the mind set of people and motivate them to adopt these homeless cats:)
